UNITED BIBLE SOCIETIES' RELIEF EFFORTS IN HAITI
American Bible Society and the United Bible Societies, in partnership with the Haitian Bible Society, are seeking to bring water, food and Scripture to the thousands affected by the earthquake in Haiti. The need for humanitarian relief is huge. Haitian death toll estimates are still unclear, but well into the hundreds of thousands.
Meeting the needs of the people at this point is critical. Before the earthquake, Haiti was the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. Now, with thousands of these poverty-stricken Haitians street-bound and having nowhere to turn, it is imperative that we band together and provide relief in every possible form.
The most immediate physical need is clean drinking water for our Haitian brothers and sisters. The human body is capable of going a few days without food (and we will provide food) but water is an absolute necessity. In partnership with Operation Compassion and Water Missions International, 50,000 gallons of water are being immediately distributed.
Along with this, ABS in partnership with Haitian Bible Society representatives will distribute 200,000 “God is Our Shelter and Strength” scripture portions to bring much-needed spiritual comfort to our friends caught in the midst of this disaster.

The American Bible Society is covering the cost of raising funds for Haiti out of our cash reserves. So, 100 percent of every dollar you give goes directly to provide critical needs such as clean drinking water, food, shelter, basic hygiene and the Scripture Portion: "God is Our Shelter and Strength."
Our partners, The Bible Society of Haiti, Water Missions International and Operation Compassion are already on the ground in Haiti providing humanitarian aid. In addition, Back to The Bible has committed that 100 percent of funds they raise for Haiti relief will go to this project.
Later we will follow up with more spiritual needs, replacing lost Bibles, providing new Bibles in the Haitian Creole language and helping to rebuild the local infrastructure.
